Gagauzia governor urging Moldovan president to consider raider phenomenon developing in autonomous region

Bashkan of Gagauzia Mikhail Formuzal has sent an official letter to Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, asking him to consider in earnest the question of the raider activities gaining momentum in the southern Moldovan autonomous region lately.

Formuzal is insisting that the question must be necessarily studied at a near sitting of the Supreme Security Council so as to put an end to this arbitrariness, which is not always seen from the Chisinau heights of the central authorities.

In the letter, Mikhail Formuzal described the insolvency process initiated recently against one of the region’s largest agricultural enterprises, Baurci-Agro, on a fairly dubious ground – salary arrears to an amount of slightly over 12,000 lei (about US$1,000). For such laughable a sum, somebody has decided to bankrupt and then grasp a company that cultivates Group 1 grain crops alone over an area of more than 1,000 hectares, not to mention other activity directions.

The most ridiculous thing about this entire story is that the company administration has repeatedly begged the arrears recipient, company’s former worker named Mr. Kalpakci, to please come and get your money so as to close down this problem at last.

Governor Mikhail Formuzal said that law enforcement agencies, including the prosecutor office of Gagauzia, are remaining strangely inert and indifferent to the illicit process taking place in the autonomous region and destabilizing the general atmosphere there as regional parliamentary elections are approaching there [September 9].
