Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca turns 34 today, August 9. He announced he would take a free day so that people didn’t queue up with flowers like “at (Lenin’s) mausoleum” and transformed his office “into a flower stand”, Info-Prim Neo reports.

Dorin Chirtoaca admitted that in previous years he did like the other officials: he stayed in his office and received congratulations, flowers and gifts, but this year he intends to break the tradition. “Usually, I visit my mother in the morning and bring her some flowers in recognition for giving birth to me, for raising and educating me”, the Mayor said a few days ago.

Asked about his birthday wishes by the journalists, the Mayor said he wanted to reach a day when he would feel he accomplished his mission and that his work at the City Hall and in the party concluded with a positive result. “I want to be able at an old age to look back and say that all my work hasn’t been in vain”, he said.

Dorin Chirtoaca added that he would probably take more than a free day and go on holiday for a time.
