The Republic of Moldova marks its 21st independence anniversary today. On this occasion, high Moldovan officials laid flowers at the monument to great Moldovan medieval ruler Stefan cel Mare in central Chisinau.
The first to lay flowers were Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu and Prime Minister Vlad Filat. They were followed by Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and All Moldova Vladimir, ministers and lawmakers. Diplomats accredited to Chisinau, representatives of the local public administration and of the parliamentary opposition were also in attendance.
The official opening of festivities dedicated to Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova took place in front of the monument to Stefan cel Mare as well.
Throughout the day, the Great National Assembly Square in central Chisinau will host a large number of events dedicated to the independence anniversary, which will end with a concert performed by Geta Burlacu and Stefanet Marcel Orchestra.
