Chisinau’s monuments

Every nation cherishes the memory of important events in its history, perpetuating them in stone and metal. In our city many beautiful monuments had been created. Monument to Alexander Pushkin – the oldest from the surviving monuments in the city, it was established in 1885 in the park "Stefan cel Mare" with the money raised by Chisinau residents via pledge (1000 rubles in gold) and it represents an exact copy of the author's top of the monument A . Pushkin, set in Moscow on Pushkin square. Chisinau became the second city after Moscow, where the monument to the great poet was set.

At the entrance to the central park there is a monument to the Ruler of the country and national hero, Stefan the Great, which led Moldova to the era of prosperity and fame in a brief period of its independence in the years 1457-1504.

The monument was designed by sculptor Plamadeala in 1927, and in 1990-91. In March 1957 in the park was opened the moldovan alley of classics of literature - on the pedestal of polished red granite were established bronze busts of the writer and public-political actors. The alley became favorite vacation spot for local people and guests of the capital.

In any member country of the Great Patriotic War there is a memorial as a memory of those who gave their lives for peace and our future. In the Moldovan capital the memorial complex "Eternitate" was opened on May 9, 1975, along the street P. Halippa.

Composition of the Memorial Victory is crowned by the 25-meter pyramid of five stylized rifles, which unites the whole complex and at the same time, divides into the sector of military burial and square. At the base of the pyramid there is a large five-pointed star in the center of which burns an eternal flame, lit from the Eternal Flame at the old military cemetery.

Along the north-west side of the memorial six stone steles are situated, which have carved sculptures that symbolize the individual stages of the Great Patriotic War from its first day until the day of Victory. At the foot steles, along the alley, there are located 155 marble slabs with the names of heroically fallen soldiers.

The territory of the memorial is paved with white stone slabs. In April-August 2006 the reconstruction of the memorial complex have taken place. Chisinau people have a good tradition: on the wedding day the newlyweds always come to the memorial to lay flowers at the monument to the heroes of the war. On the day of victory, on May 9, the veterans are gathering on the territory of the memorial and the descendants of those in memory of whom burns the eternal flame.

In 2007, on the boulevard Miron Costin was opened a Memorial Complex in the memory of the soldiers who died in the Afghan war. The name of the complex: "Sons of the Fatherland - the sacred memory." Authors – the sculptor Boris Dubrovin and the architect Vasily Eremchuk. The complex represents, at the entrance to the park, a towering at statue of the Sorrowful Mother and white pylons, staring into the heavens.

At the level of five meters from the land they are framed by a bronze crown of thorns. In the center - a granite bowl in the form of a black tulip, which will be to lay flowers and place candles. Around the monument granite slabs with the names of dead soldiers are installed. At the top of the track stands the cross. The height of the monument is 15 meters. In addition, here around the memorial cascade fountains are located, which create a unique microclimate in the park. At the park it is pleasant to walk both by day and night.

Our nation cherishes all that was bequeathed to it by the ancestors, and thus from centuries to centuries it multiplies its spiritual wealth and strengthens the culture of the state. And as direct evidence to that there are preserved old and newly built monuments bearing the historical events and great emotional charge.
