There’s simply nothing like the IWCM Charity Night of Art. On Friday 4th June from 6:00 – 21:30 at the Constantin Brancusi Exhibition Centre, 3, Bd. Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau, the International Women’s Club of Moldova (IWCM) will proudly present a dazzling collection of high-calibre Moldovan art.

Around 300 carefully selected works from well known and aspiring artists and artisans will be exhibited in the stunning space of main gallery.  Art lovers and serious collectors alike will have a unique opportunity to browse through the wealth of Moldova’s artistic talent and to purchase works direct from the artists.

Continuing the “best of Moldova” theme, guests will also have the chance to sample Moldovan beer, juices and water, taste wines from the Moldovan Small Wine Producers Association and feast on delicious Moldovan food from the buffet. Tea, coffee and chocolates will also be served.

All proceeds will go to charitable causes in Moldova chosen by the IWCM. So far in 2010 the IWCM has supported the Special Olympics, Moldova and the Placement Centre for Children “Regina Pacis” and has purchased sports and fitness equipment for the TB Rehab Centre for Children in Tirnova (Centrul ftiziopneumologic de reabilitare pentru copii “Tirnova”). The IWCM hopes to raise money for school equipment and books for these children in time for the next academic year.  For more information visit www.iwcm.md and click on “charity”. Tickets for the Night of Art 2010 cost 100 Lei and can be purchased on the door.

Notes for Editors

The first IWCM Charity Night of Art was in 2004 and has been held annually ever since. So far these events have raised over $45 000 for charity in Moldova.

IWCM Beneficiaries so far in 2010:

1. The TB Rehab Centre for Children, Tirnova (Centrul ftiziopneumologic de reabilitare pentru copii “Tirnova”) is a state-run facility for children aged 4 to 16 who are either recovering from tuberculosis, or who are at risk of contracting the disease.  It currently treats around 200 children from different social backgrounds including disadvantaged families and children’s homes throughout Moldova. A typical stay is 4-8 months, although some children have to stay much longer (a year or even more) and others are returners.  In constant use since 1962, the buildings and utilities are now in extremely poor condition and the centre is in urgent need of everything from major renovation works to basic, everyday items such as cups, bedding and books etc.  Originally chosen as one of beneficiaries of the IWCM Winter Bazaar 2009, conditions are so desperate that IWCM have pledged to raise funds for the centre for coming three years.  So far in 2010 the IWCM has purchased over 400 towels, 1000 party balloons (to build lung strength), sports and fitness equipment and an electronic keyboard for the children, so that they can enjoy better health and a bit of much needed fun. The IWCM hopes to raise money for school equipment and books for these children in time for the next academic year.

2. Special Olympics Moldova. Part of the international Special Olympics movement, Special Olympics Moldova organises year round competitions and training in different sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities from the age of 8 upwards.  Participating athletes have the opportunity to realise their potential, improve physical fitness and motor skills and develop greater self confidence by demonstrating courage and taking pride in their achievements. Special Olympics Moldova promotes the understanding, acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities so that they become members of society with full rights. The activities they organise give this often neglected group a precious chance to grow mentally, socially and spiritually as they discover new talents, share friendship and have great fun!  In 2010 the IWCM has supported a national mini-football tournament for children organised as part of European Football Week. The next event will be the Special Olympics European Summer Games in Warsaw 18-24 September.  Special Olympics Moldova hopes to raise funds to send around 25 children to compete in the games.

3. The Placement Centre for Children “Regina Pacis” offers an opportunity for social reintegration for “street children” - disadvantaged teenagers aged 12 to 18 - who have nowhere else to turn. The centre offers 24 hour shelter, usually for up to 12 months, or longer if necessary, in an environment which mimics a family home. A team of social workers, doctors, psychologists and teachers work together to give the teenagers essential life skills, a sense of security and confidence, responsibility, improved self esteem and self awareness to help them face their challenges.  This year the IWCM has supported the centre by buying clothes and shoes for the teenagers.
